10.05.08 - Llanfair PG vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Drew 2 - 2)
|
Fitting our final game of the season should of been our first, the game was
played in perfect sunshine (just as well) and we came away with a point but
by all accounts it should of been all three.
Isa took the lead as early as the
9th minute through an own goal, and playing well the points looked safe until
a double whammy inside the last 10mins saw the game turned on its head. But
Isa scored a last minute penalty from Anthony Williams to ensure a point.
Well
thats it another season done & dusted time to re charge the batteries and
get
ready to give the new campaign a real go.
I was away for the presentation
night but i believe it was a very good night, hope to
see most
if not all of the players back next season and for those that decide to move
on good luck for whoever you sign for.
Its the silly season for rumours so i
don't believe a thing until the dotted line is signed.
Have a good summer all
and see you next season......JB.

- Mynydd
Isa vs. Guilsfield - League (Drew 1 - 1)
|
|
| An improvement on fridays result as honours were even at 1-1 today at the Argoed. We didn't have it all our own way as Guilsfield are a very good side on their day and no mugs in this league. Our visitors had the better of the first half and went in 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Ben White, he fired in after Ryan Roberts had saved a free kick.H/T 0-1.
The second half Isa came out a different side and the chances started to come, but you thought it was going to be one of those days again. And it took until 80mins for the equaliser to arrive when a misplaced effort from Ben Powell fell to Chris Boulton and from a tight angle he lashed it home.F/T1-1
Isa: Roberts, B Jones, Wood, Murphy ,Connolly, Leonard, A Williams, Calder, Hardstaffe, Pugh & N Jones.
Subs: Hulse, Boulton & Powell (all used).

02.05.08
- Ruthin vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Lost 0 - 3)
|
| A poor performance tonight at Ruthin, I wasn't present at the game but from what I can gather it was dire and 3-0 down at half time tells its own story, and Perry was not a happy bunny.
The players must quickly make amends for that display on Monday v Guilsfield as there are 6 points still to play for.
|
26.04.08
- Mynydd Isa vs. Buckley Town - League (Drew 0 -
0)
|
|
|
No goals, and Perry must wonder what we have
to do to get one, we can't buy a goal at the moment, and i'll
leave it at that for fear of repeating myself.Isa played well
again after the tough midweek semi v Gap and Perry got the
right response from his players, you learn a lot from defeat.
After a fairly even first half Isa turned the screw in the
second and the game should of been over as a contest by a
country mile but attack after attack saw the punch drunk Buckley
defence hold out. So a point a piece it was.Still another
3 games remaining and it would be nice to go out with maximum
points.
Isa:Walsh, McKean, Hopkins, Knight, Connolly, Murphy, N Jones,
Hulse, Wood, A Williams & Pugh.
Subs: Powell, Hardstaffe, T Williams & B Jones. |
23.04.08 - Gap Queens Park vs. Mynydd Isa - Cup Semi (Lost 1 - 2)
|
|
2 late goals from Graham Courtney (76) & Ricky Evans (87) the latter from a free kick denied Isa a place in the final at the Globe Way.
The tie almost went to extra time which would of been the least we deserved, when in the dying seconds Gap keeper Rowley pulled off a great save low to his left to deny Simon Hulse. And it was Simon Hulse who had earlier broken the deadlock to give Isa the lead on 38mins when he sprang the offside trap to slot home after rounding the keeper.
It was an evenly contested game with chances either end and we certainly give as good as we got.
Good luck to both Gap & Bala for both of their finals.
ISA: Walsh, B Jones, Wood, McKean, Knight, Murphy, A Williams, Leonard, Hulse, Pugh & N Jones.
Subs: Powell, T Williams, Hardstaffe (used) Boulton & R Roberts.

19.04.08
- Guilsfield vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Lost 0 - 1)
|
|
There was not much in the game and it was decided with a solitary strike from Tim Nunnerly on 38 mins. Isa played well throughout the game without really testing the home keeper, which has been our problem all season. At the other end Alan Tyrell in the Isa goal hasn't had a save to make second half.
Anyway the season is still alive with the League Cup to go for and all roads lead to the globe way home of our neighbours Buckley who host our semi final clash against Gap Queens Park on Wednesday night hope to see you all there.
Isa: Tyrell, Pugh, Hopkins, Connolly, Wood, Powell, A Williams, N Jones, Hulse, Boulton, Hardstaffe. Subs: C Williams, Murphy & T Williams.

15.04.08
- Flint Town vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Lost 2 - 4)
|
|
|
It was an entertaining
game and a good advert for the CA but mistakes have cost us
tonight and you can't give a team like Flint any incentive
like that. Perry although pleased with the performance will
be disappointed at the goals we conceded. We couldn't of got
off to a better start as we went 1-0 up after 8mins good work
down the right between Ant Williams & Chris Boulton ended
with a crisp shot into the bottom corner from Ant Williams.Minutes
later the game could of been oh so different if an identical
move had of been finished off, you can ask Ant when you see
him how he missed!! This let off spurred Flint into action
and a mistake, mix up call it what you like & non existing
marking at a corner saw our hosts turn it round to 2-1 at
half time.
The second half carried on in the same fashion there were
chances at either end as both teams wanted victory, the woodwork
was rattled first by Flint then by Isa and the next goal was
crucial.Alas it went to Flint, after a hesitant defensive
error Paul Connolly was caught in possession on the edge of
the box & Sean Beck fired home.We got back to 3-2 when
Ben Mckean got his first for the club after a bit of ping
pong following a corner. We pushed for the equaliser but Flint
held firm and near the end our fate was sealed when Roberts
in the Isa goal failed to hang on to a shot which left a tap
in for the home forward.F/T 4-2.
Isa: Roberts, Mckean, T Williams, Connolly, Murphy, Leonard,
Hulse, Powell, Boulton, A Williams & N Jones.
Subs: Hardstaffe, C Williams, B Jones (used) Pugh & Walsh. |
12.04.08
- Mynydd Isa vs. Holyhead Hotspur - League (Won 4
- 0)
|
|
|
The manager was well pleased with this result as we all were, this
sort of scoreline was waiting to happen we've been creating
the chances but just not sticking them away, but today the
shooting boots were on and even Holyhead couldn't complain
at the result.
To be fair it took us 20 mins to get a foothold on the game
the usual wind not helping matters and Holyhead had plenty
of the ball in the early stages without really threatening.Isa
keeper Roberts was called into action though to palm away
a dangerous in swinging corner.
On 35 mins Simon Hulse scored the opener firing in from the
edge of the box after good work from Steve Hopkins & Nathan
Jones Isa never looked back after that.H/T 1-0.
Holyheads task was made even harder for them after the left
back was dismissed 10 mins into the second half, and on the
hour Anthony Williams scored a peach of a goal after beating
a couple of men, he broke clear and found the top corner from
20yards....ish!!! The tails were up and everyone wanted a
piece of the action. The visitors were soon on the backfoot
again and a good run and cross from Ben Powell on the right
found Nathan Jones who's shot was blocked by the keeper but
Chris Boulton was on hand to curl his shot in the top corner. The
icing on the cake was the fourth goal which was scored by
Dean Hardstaffe in his first start for 7 months after his
freak injury at LLandudno, he came on as sub and smashed one
in from the right hand side of the box.On a sour note we lost
Craig Knight to a nasty head injury,he was taken to Wrexham
Hospital for treatment.Lets hope for a speedy recovery as
he was playing well himself after a long lay off.3 good points
today lets carry this form on to Flint on Tuesday night .
Isa: Roberts, Mckean, Hopkins, Connolly, Knight, Murphy, Hulse,
A Williams, Powell, N Jones & Boulton.
Subs: Pugh, Leonard & Hardstaffe (all used). |
09.04.08 - Lex XI vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Lost 2 - 3)
|
|
Our downturn in
fortunes continued here tonight with a 3-2 defeat at relegation
threatened Lex.Our cause wasn't helped again as we gifted
our hosts a 2-0 lead with a Paul Connolly own goal and then
a fumble from Keeper Roberts left a tap in for Pendleton. We
then had a purple patch pulling the 2 goals back through the
tireless Ben Powell & Nathan Jones and also struck the
bar we didn't want the half to end. Both sides were reduced
to 10 men before half time after Duckett for Lex decided to
take the law into his own hands and launch what can only be
described as an assualt on our player Barry Calder. How Barry
got a red card god only knows.
H/T 2-2
The Lex winner came courtesy of another Paul Connolly own
goal early in the second half and to be fair he couldn't of
got out of the way of either, they were both low hard crosses
that struck him, but it shows what can happen when you get
that ball into the mix early. Again it wasn't pretty on the
eye and you wouldn't think semi final places are up for grabs!!!
We pushed for the leveller but it wasn't going to be our night
when once again we struck the bar with a Chris Boulton header
and lex hung on for their 3 vital points.
Isa: Roberts, Mckean, Hopkins, Connolly, Knight, Murphy, Powell,
A Williams, Calder, N Jones & Pugh.
Subs: Boulton, C Williams & T Williams (all used).

05.04.08
- Mynydd Isa vs. Penrhyncoch - League (Drew 1 - 1)
|
|
|
This was a hard earned point today against
a fiesty Penrhyncoch side who are fighting for every point
to steer themselves clear from the relegation zone.It ended
a mini dip in results rather than form for Isa as we deserved
to get something out of the last 2 games. There were four changes
from the previous week and it is nice to see Craig knight
back in the fold after a long abscence. The first half was
evenly contested affair with both sides having chances but
it took until the 75th minute for the deadlock to be broken
when neat work saw Anthony Hartnell break clear to lob over
Roberts in the Isa goal. But the lead only lasted 5 mins when
Isa were awarded a penalty after Ben Powell was impeded in
the six yard box and Stuart Wood made no mistake from the
spot.F/T 1-1.
Isa: Roberts, McKean, Hopkins, Connolly, Knight, Murphy, Hulse,
A Williams, C Williams, Boulton & Calder .
Subs: Powell, Wood & Thomas.(all used). |
29.03.08
- Llandyrnog vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Lost 2 - 3)
|
|
| Well done to all
concerned for getting this game played today, after another
downpour prior to kick off there was some doubt whether to
proceed, but after a long hard look by the officials and with
both clubs input everyone decided to give it a go.
The first half was pretty much end to end stuff with chances
at a premium but credit to both sides they were trying to
play football in somewhat difficult conditions. The first 45
mins was heading for stalemate then the unimaginable happened,
Llandyrnog struck 3 times in what seemed as many minutes to
send in a shellshocked Isa 3-0 down at the break.
Neal Hughes escaped his marker on the left flank & rounded
keeper Ryan Roberts to slot home the first,(36) Mark Roberts
found himself unmarked in the box so much so he thought he
was offside before nodding in a free kick for the second,(39)
and when the ball fell to Adam Lloyd in the box he had time
to bake a cake before slotting home the third (40).
Don't know what was said at half time but it was working,
the sun was out by now and are play was getting brighter as
well. After 10 mins perry made a triple change and it was 2
of the trio who combined to grab a goal back on the hour mark.Craig
Williams latched on to a ball in the box and managed to get
a shot in but as it was slowing down in the mud Ben Powell
followed in to make sure it crossed the line(60).Isa kept
pushing forward and were awarded a free kick on the edge of
the box which saw Steve Hopkins execute a slide rule finish
into the top corner with keeper Arwel Thomas rooted to the
spot. And if it wasn't for Thomas who kept us at bay with a
couple of fine saves the result could of been much different. We
gave ourselves a mountain to climb with some catastrophic
defending in a bizzare 4 min spell you can't give anyone in
this league a 3 goal start but to be fair we only just fell
short.
ISA: Roberts, McKean, Murphy, Hopkins, T Williams, Wood, N
Jones, AWilliams, Calder, Pugh & Boulton.
Subs: Hulse, Powell, C Williams (all used) & K Davies.

24.03.08
- Mynydd Isa vs. Llanfair PG - League (Lost 0 - 2)
|
|
| What a difference
48 hours make!! this was a disappointing display & result
on the back of the Prestatyn game, our visitors Llanfair PG
certainly have the indian sign over us.Perry was forced to
shuffle the pack with 3 notable absentees in key positions,
their stand in's did well enough but again it was missed chances
that has cost us dear. Llanfair took the points with goals
either side of half time the first one being a penalty and
the second straight from the re start the Llanfair striker
miscued his shot which wrong footed Roberts in the Isa goal
and found the net.
Time to regroup and focus on our remaining 7 fixtures, still
plenty of points to play for plus a semi final to look forward
to.The season isn't over yet.

- Prestatyn Town vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Drew 0
- 0)
|
|
|
It was honours even at Bastion Road where
the champagne is still on ice for at least another week. The
draw was mainly down to the 2 keepers who both were in good
form with the home keeper John Dunt slightly busier than Isa's
Ryan Roberts but credit to both they kept thier goal intact. Before
the game we'd have taken a point but on reflection we could
of taken all 3.We played some good stuff today kept the ball
well and dealt with everything Prestatyn had to offer, but
it is at the other end of the pitch we are struggling the
goal difference column doesn't lie.F/T 0-0.
ISA:Roberts,McKean,Wood,Hopkins,Connolly,N Jones,Leonard,Calder,Powell,Hulse

15.03.08
- Mynydd Isa vs. Llandudno - League (Won 3 - 2)
|
|
Mynydd Isa seemed to be on the ropes when
visitors Llandudno went into a 2-0 lead with efforts from
Neil Cloverly (pen) and Gwyn Peters. Funny though we didn't
hear any complaints about the difficult pitch conditions at
this stage.
It didn't look as if it was going to be Isa's day when
Chris Boulton fluffed a 44th minute penalty chance. But
Boulton did atone when he pegged a goal back, heading home
a Stuart Wood corner.
Wood also had a hand in Isa's 62nd minute equaliser when
his free kick wasn't properly cleared and Paul Connolly
fired home from close range.
Isa upped the tempo and bagged a deserved winner in the
74th minute through Nathan Jones after good work by Simon
Hulse. The 2nd half was totally dominated by Isa and Llandudno's
frustration finally boiled over when they had a player dismissed
10 mins from time.
When we looked at our run in we felt we had a say were the
title would end up and after that result i don't think it
is going to LLandudno.Another good result against top flight
opposition it seems to be the teams at the other end of
the table we struggle against.F/T 3-2.
Isa:Roberts,Mckean,Wood,Hopkins,Connolly,Horne,Leonard,Calder,C
Williams,Boulton & N Jones.

23.02.08
- Mynydd Isa vs. Prestatyn - League (Won 2 - 1)
|
|
|
Normal service was resumed at the Argoed Sports
Ground today at the expense of runaway league leaders Prestatyn
Town. The game was contested in blustery conditions and against
the wind Isa had the better of the early exchanges with Chris
Boulton twice going close. But Prestatyn are not top for nothing
and soon got into their stride and danger man Hoult was causing
problems down the left flank for the visitors.Centre back
Dave Hayes had flashed a couple of headers wide from corners
but on 19mins he made no mistake from his third effort following
a free kick after Isa keeper Roberts had fouled outside of
his box.Isa stuck to the task with Connolly & Hopkins
marshalling the defence superbly. On 44 mins we were rewarded
with the leveller when Dunt in the visitors goal failed to
hang on to Anthony Williams shot but then parried well from
Calders follow up effort only for Chris Boulton to react quickest
to nod over the line.H/T 1-1.
The second half saw Isa turn up the pressure and Prestatyn
were finding it hard to clear their lines against the wind
and this was spurring Isa on.Perry decided to change things
and on came Nathan Jones & Sam Pugh and it was the latter
who put us in front.A free kick from the left was only half
cleared by Prestatyn, the ball fell to Pugh who drilled into
the bottom corner from 12 yards. A well deserved victory in
the end and a welcome 3 pts, once again the team have shown
the manager what they are capable of but it needs to be on
a more consistent level.
Isa:Roberts,Mckean,Connolly,Hopkins,Wood,A Williams,Leonard,Horne,Calder,C
Williams & Boulton.

16.02.08
- Mynydd Isa vs. Glantraeth - League (Lost 0 - 1)
|
|
| This was an evenly
fought contest and in all honesty although our visitors snatched
victory with three minutes remaining it was what their 2nd
half performance deserved.Isa just shaded the first half and
had the two clearest chances of the half when both Chris Boulton
& Craig Williams were sent clear, but with only the goalkeeper
to beat both skied their shots. We've said it before that if
you don't take your chances at this level you get punished
and this has happened today. There seems to be a little lack
of confidence throughout the side at the moment and it is
reflecting in the play but nothing a couple of good wins can't
put right.Glantraeth's winner came in the 87th minute when
Gareth wyn Roberts headed home a free kick from Paul Rowlands
which was well delivered.
Isa: Roberts, Pugh, Mckean, Connolly, Hopkins, Horne, Calder,
Leonard, A Williams, C Williams & Boulton.

- Llay Welfare vs. Mynydd Isa - NEWFA Cup (Lost 1
- 3)
|
|
|
Cup football always creates shock results and this weekend was no exception when minnows Llay Welfare claiming the prize scalp in the shape of Cymru Alliance side Mynydd Isa 3-1 who looked in control when Nathan Jones provided them with an interval lead. A spectacular overhead kick from Matt Williams squared the tie and then moments later in a whirlwind patch Robbie Nevitt doubled their tally and Isa lost further ground when sub Matt Davies sealed the tie. This was the WNL websites take on proceedings i could of tried to dress it up a bit but it won't detract from the fact that we are out of the competition yet again to lower league opposition. We know it was a double defensive mix up which saw Llay score twice in a minute to go 2-1 up, but its the first time we saw it visibly shake us and the heads went down, and its how you react to results like this which matters..The games are going to come thick & fast now towards the end of the season and we can start to make amends with 3pts at home to Glantraeth on Saturday.

26.01.08
- Holyhead Hotspur vs. Mynydd Isa - Cup (Won 1 -
0)
|
|
|
Holyhead must of had a smile as wide as the Brittania Bridge on their faces when they saw our team sheet, after the late withdrawal of Isa keeper Dave Walsh saw the manager putting himself between the sticks. Everyone was a bit unsure of this move but he was having none of it and he turned out to be a very able deputy. There was a strong wind blowing right down the pitch and the hosts chose to kick with it which told its own story, but Isa had not read the script and started the brighter with some neat crisp passing moves and keeping Holyhead at arms length, whether what was standing in the 18 yard box behind them had anything to do with it we were not quite sure but it was working. Isa deseredly took the lead on 18 mins when Joey Ouslem crashed a header against the post from a corner, John Leonard latched on to the rebound to fire home. This visibly unsettled Holyhead and give us more of a footing in the game which we never relinquished.
This was a good away performance and erased the memory of the previous week as this is what we are capable of and more.
And if we hear that phrase "clean sheet" again!!!!!!!!!!!!
We deserved our semi final berth and Holyhead can have no complaints they were well beaten on the day. Well done all.

19.01.08
- Gresford Ath vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Lost 1 -
2)
|
|
| This was a bad
day at the office by anyones standards and probably one of
the worst displays under Perry's stewardship, but once they've
crossed that white line its down to the players on the park.
However taking nothing away from Gresford they deserved their
win on the day but Isa missed 3 good chances, and denied a
blatant penalty before Rob Rondel opened the scoring, Isa
keeper Walsh kicked from his hands staight to Rondel who had
the prescence of mind to send his shot from distance straight
back over the back pedalling Walsh for 1-0.
Im afraid to say it went from bad to worse after that. H/T
1-0
Isa keeper Walsh did not appear for the 2nd half and it didn't
take long for his deputy Ryan Roberts to make an impact on
the game. He was sent off for a 2nd yellow which left us down
to 10 men yet again but he did manage to atone for his 1st
yellow by saving the resulting penalty. Nathan Jones donned
the keepers gloves when he eventually managed to get them
on and his first action was to pick the ball out of the net
from the free kick which was headed in by Mike Pugh. Our new
signing Craig Williams an ex Gresford player came on and made
it a tense last 10 mins for the hosts when he pulled one back
from a corner, but it was too little too late. F/T 2-1.
Isa:Walsh, B Jones, Ouslem, Connolly, Hopkins. Hulse, Murphy,
A Williams, N Jones, Pugh & Boulton.
Subs: Roberts, Wood, C Williams, McKeen & T Williams. |
12.01.08
- Mynydd Isa vs. Denbigh Town - League (Drew 1 -1)
|
|
|
This was another tough encounter which we expected against a well organised Denbigh outfit,to be fair if any of the sides had lost this game they would of been well miffed and a draw seemed a fair outcome on reflection. There were scares at both ends as early as the 2nd minute and it quite easily could of been 1-1 at that stage.Isa had the better of the first half and took the game to Denbigh and with a bit more luck in front of goal we could of gone in at half time ahead.H/T 0-0.
The second half saw Denbigh come into the game more and it became more end to end stuff and a good game to watch,it was getting competitive not dirty as the official seemed to think as he started waving silly yellow cards about. Both sides could sense victory and they were going for it.It was Denbigh who broke the deadlock on the hour mark when Luke O'Mahoney found himself in space on the left and he had time to measure a curler past home keeper Walsh. We were up against it now and even more so when Barry Calder got his marching orders for his 2nd silly yellow. We got our deserved leveller 10mins from time when Chris Boulton met a Simon Hulse cross which left his brother Jamie rooted to the spot in the Denbigh goal.F/T 1-1
Isa:Walsh,McKeen,Connolly,Ouslem,Calder,Hulse,Murphy,Leonard,A Williams,Pugh & Boulton. Subs:(all used) B Jones,N Jones, S Hopkins. |

- Mynydd Isa vs. Lex XI - NEWFA Cup (Won 3 - 2)
|
|
| Mynydd Isa booked
a place in the next round of the NEWFA Cup with a narrow 3-2
win over LEX XI. Sam Pugh with a long range effort and Simon
Hulse from the penalty spot had Isa in charge but a clever
lob from Gary Penlington had given the visitors an earlier
lead against the run of play.
At the start of the second half, Pugh doubled his personal
account getting on the end of a Ben Powell cross.after good
work from Paul Connolly. Penlington set up a grandstand finish
following a Craig Thomas free-kick but there was then no way
back for LEX after they had Simon Richards dismissed after
he received a 2nd yellow card very late in the game. |
| 29.12.07
- Mynydd Isa vs. Bala Town - League (Drew 2 - 2)
|
|
In a match played in terrible conditions we
played some decent stuff today, but Bala seem to have the
indian sign over us lately no matter how we play and with
a strong wind behind them they struck after only 5 mins through
Warren Duckett.Craig Papirnyk added a 2nd on 42mins but in
between we had a stone wall penalty waved away when Ant Williams
was brought down and Paul Connolly & Simon Hulse missed
good chances when easier to score.Bala had Neil Fisher sent
off (straight red) for a horror tackle on Isa keeper Ryan
Roberts on 35mins.H/T 0-2.
The 2nd half and with the driving rain & wind behind us
saw us pen Bala back into thier own half and the pressure
finally paid off when we got both our goals towards the end
of the game through & Paul Connolly 75mins & Ant Williams
80mins for a deserved share of the spoils.

22.12.07 - GAP Queens Park vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Won 2 - 1)
|
|
One thing money can't
buy is team spirit and we had that in abundance today, another
fine display from the lads saw us take all 3pts from the Queensway
Stadium and fully deserved they were to. We got off to a flyer
on 4 mins when Anthony Williams broke free and managed to
get his shot away just in time with the keeper closing him
down and a defender breathing down his neck. The lead was
doubled on 10 mins when Chris Boulton beat the offside trap
and ran clear ,he skipped round the keeper to fire home. Gap
had plenty of the ball and you let them spray it round at
your peril. The midfield & defence on the whole had them
well shackled but a lapse of concentration from a free kick
saw the Gap equaliser. It was taken quickly and knocked into
the area, it was only half cleared to the waiting Wyn Roberts
who fired home.H/T 2-1:
The second half was similar to the first really, Gap having
plenty of the ball but not doing a great deal with it, and
we always looked dangerous on the break.Isa were creating
the more clear cut chances with Sam Pugh (twice) & Chris
Boulton both going close to extending the lead. The frustation
was creeping into Gap's play and that boiled over on 80mins
when Kevin Leach was shown a straight red for an off the ball
incident. The whistle finally blew after about 6mins injury
time and the job was done.F/T 2-1.
Another cracking away win against one of the fancied sides
to go up and also wipes out the upset of last weeks result. It
keeps us moving in the right direction in the league and confidence
at a high
.

15.12.07
- Holyhead Hotspur vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Lost 1 - 3)
|
|
|
This game was a good advert for the CA, keenly contested & well officiated. But you could tell it was one of those games that was going to have a sting in the tail and which way it was going to go was anyones guess.Holyhead started the brighter and scored as early as the 7th minute when Mark Evans was left unattended at the far post to nod home. That was cancelled out on 10mins when from a fine through ball from Anthony Williams, Chris Boulton cut inside from the right edge of the box to curl his shot past the keeper and in via the post.H/T 1-1
The 2nd half was end to end with the hosts just edging us on the chances created but make no mistake we were always in this game and played some neat stuff ourselves. But with the final whistle loomimg we had a corner which fell to the feet of Paul Connolly but the ball bobbled away before he could get his shot away and from that Holyhead broke and a good cross field ball found Mark Evans free and he ran on to slot past Ryan Roberts .In added time our fate was sealed when similarly Mike Edwards broke free to slot past the Isa keeper F/T 3-1.

- Glantraeth vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Won 3 - 1)
|
|
|
After 2 weeks of in activity this is one of the last places you'd want to go to to kick start your campaign. But from the off the team were up for it and from 1 to 15 they gave their all and were not going to be denied the win. Isa with a strong wind against settled the quicker and had the ball in the net as early as the 2nd minute only to be denied by the linesmans flag. But we didn't have to wait long for the opening salvo when Sam Pugh duly obliged following a corner on 10 mins. We looked dangerous everytime we went forward and with the defence coping with everything Glantraeth tried it was no surprise when after a good run and cross from Chris Boulton, Sam Pugh got his 2nd with a fine header. Glantraeth were restricted to long range efforts in the main but the Isa keeper Roberts was called into action when a free kick was heading for the top corner and he produced a fine tip over H/T 2-0.
Glantraeth came at us at the start of the 2nd half which you would expect but again the defence stood firm.On 65 mins the game was virtually made safe when a long clearance caused a mix up between keeper & defender leaving Chris Boulton to slot home. At this point with a heavy pitch and a three goal lead Isa made the mandatory 3 substitutions and it was one of those subs Tom Williams who could of made it 4 but for a good stop from the home keeper.Glantraeth did get their late consolation through a deflected Paul Rowlands strike but all in all we looked comfortable all afternoon and deservedly took the points back to FLINTSHIRE.

No one deserved a goal more than Barry Calder
on the day, as he must of covered every blade of grass and
it was fitting his 85th minute header settled matters after
earlier having a strike ruled out for offside???? This was
a determined performance by Isa and it wasn't made any easier
by the fact we played the whole of the 2nd half with 10 men
after Stuart Wood (recently back from an anger management
course) was dismissed on 44 mins.
Chris Boulton also saw his effort ruled out for offside???
early in the 2nd half as well. The 10 men dug in and were not
going to be denied the 3pts.Its important to beat the teams
around you which we did today and that win keeps us moving
in the right direction in the league, especially as now we
have an enforced 2 week break due to International games &
the postponement of the Bodedern game.
Our next fixture sees us on the road to the Island to take
on Glantraeth Dec 1st.

- Llangefni Town vs. Mynydd Isa - Welsh Cup (Lost 3 - 0)
|
|
All Perry's best laid plans were in tatters
after just 2 mins when Dylan Owen's 25 yard free kick flew
into the top corner via the underside of the crossbar, just
the start we didn't want. From then on we are chasing the
game against a well organised Welsh Prem side buoyed by
the early goal. But things might have been different when
the unlucky Sam Pugh was put through on goal with only jackson
to beat the latter saving well though. The lead then doubled
on the half hour when a mistimed overhead kick managed to
loop over keeper Tyrer. H/T 2-0
The 2nd half began with 2 substitutions for Isa and the
new shape made an immediate impact, Steve McGowan found
himself unmarked in the area and from a tight angle found
the side netting.Llangefni should of made the game safe
moments later when a miskick let in Chris Jones who fired
wide when it looked easier to score. Isa piled forward in
search of a goal and a couple of efforts were well saved
by Jackson. Our fate was sealed on 80 mins when a cleared
ball found its way into the area and keeper Tyrer missed
his kick which let in Glyn Roberts to slot home into the
unguarded net. F/T 3-0.
The score to be fair flattered the hosts who knew they were
in a game today. The finishing & mistakes proved to be
decisive on the day, but the manager could not fault the
effort put in.
Isa: Tyrer, McKean, Murphy, McGowan, Wood, Farrell, Leonard,
Dermott, Williams, Boulton & Pugh.
Subs Jones Calder Powell.

- Mynydd Isa vs. Lex XI - League (Won 3- 1)
|
|
A well earned victory today at the Argoed made even more
impressive as we played out for an hour with 10 men after
the controversial sending off of Simon Hulse.Without going
into detail and to save embarrassment to the player involved
,everyone who was watching the game knows what happened
and lets just say Simon was the victim of a player conning
the officials.
But we were playing well and 2-0 up at this point and credit
to the lads you wouldn't of thought we had a player less
on the field.Stuart Wood had put us 1-0 up after only seven
minutes from the penalty spot and that lead was doubled
by Chris Boulton who rounded the keeper to slot home. We
carried this determined display into the second half, and
it was no surprise on the hour mark the points were made
safe when the tireless Sam Pugh poked home from close range
after a good run and cross by Stuart Wood.Lex did get a
late consolation goal on 88 mins through Ashley Williams
but it was all too little too late. To Isa the spoils &
3pts.
Next week we are in Welsh Cup action at Llangefni Town of
the Welsh Premier League

20.10.07
- Mynydd Isa vs. Gresford - League (Won 1 - 0)
|
|
A welcome 3pts today from a very indifferent display. John
Farrell scored the only goal of the game after just 2 mins
and thats the way it stayed. We played some excellent stuff
for 15/20 mins which Gresford couldn't live with. But for
whatever reason our play became very sloppy and to be fair
to Gresford they came into the game more.It wasn't very
pleasing on the eye but 3pts non the less that pushes us
quietly up the table a couple of places.

16.10.07
- Flint Town vs. Mynydd Isa - League Cup (Won 1 - 0)
|
Mynydd Isa are the first team through to the second round
of the Roger Jones Builders league cup. Stuart Wood scoring
the only goal of the game at Flint Town United direct from
a free kick after eight minutes. Isa had the better of the
opening half that saw Flint reduced to ten men when Gary
Barton was dismissed for violent conduct.
Isa were also reduced to ten men ten minutes into the second
half when Brett Jones was shown a second yellow card. Flint
then played their best football of the game with substitute
Adam Renshaw coming nearest to equalising when his shot
came back off the inside of a post Resolute defending by
Isa saw us reach the second round.

09.10.07
- Bala Town vs. Mynydd Isa - League (Lost 1 - 4)
|
Bala Town entertained Mynydd Isa in midweek and after
a very even opening forty minutes Warren Duckett gave the
home side the lead scrambling in a corner. On the stroke
of half time full back Iwan Roberts increased Bala's lead
with great shot into the far corner.
Mynydd Isa almost reduced the arrears at the start of the
second half when a powerful Sam Pugh header came back off
the bar. Pugh then created a goal for Isa on seventy minutes,
Anthony Williams converting at the far post. Four minutes
later Neil Fisher restored Bala's lead and then converted
the best move of the game to seal the points. Bala substitute
Alec Stacey was then dismissed after a second yellow card.

06.10.07
- Corwen vs. Mynydd Isa - Welsh Cup (Won 3-1)
|
|
Corwen put up a fine show at home to Mynydd
Isa who won a plum tie against Llangefni in the next round
after edging through 3-1. Sam Pugh with yet another headed
goal gave Isa a 30th minute lead which was extended moments
later through Richie Dermott who had just come on as a sub.

Elfyn Roberts pegged a goal back but after
keeper Nathan Aldridge and James Davies were dismissed there
was no way back for Corwen. Chris Boulton made the tie safe
adding a third goal at the death.

29.09.07
- Mynydd Isa vs. Llandyrnog (Won 3-1)
|
|
Goalscorers : Chris Boulton, Sam Pugh &
Simon Hulse
This was a good 3pts today against a very well organised
Llandyrnog side. The home manager was pleased to see a few
familiar faces back in his starting line up for the first
time this season and it certainly steadied the ship as Isa
dominated for the first 30mins.In that period Isa carved
out a 2-0 lead, the first coming from Chris Boulton who
finished off a crisp passing move through the middle of
the park by lashing home from inside the box on 12mins.
The 2nd goal came from a Simon Hulse cross which Sam Pugh
converted brilliantly from 12 yards with his head 25mins.Llandyrnog
dug in and on the stroke of half time were awarded a penalty
which was scored by Mike Brian Jones H/T 2-1.
The second half was a bit more frustrating to watch, with
the next goal being crucial to the out come of the game
neither side really took control of the game, and chances
were at a premium. Both sides made subtitutions and Llandyrnog
became more of an arial threat & went close twice with
headers wide of the mark. But it was Isa who finished the
stronger and the tireless Chris Boulton was felled in the
box on 85mins and the resulting penalty was coolly finished
by Simon Hulse. F/T 3-1.
Some games you don't win playing pretty football you have
to grind out a result and this was certainly one of those
games.A similar performance will be required next weekend
as we find ourselves on the road at Corwen in the Welsh
Cup not an easy place to go to at the best of times, and
i see they had a good win at Mold Alex yesterday so they
are in a bit of good form.

- Penrhyncoch vs. Mynydd Isa (Won 2 -0)
|
A superb turned out pitch in glorious
sunshine a credit to the hardworking committee at Penrhyncoch,
the first half was a battle from the off and the man in the
middle was to have what can only be described as a stinker,
late takes two footed no booking ! a punch to the head and a
kick when the ball has gone ! nothing ! raised hands twice !
nothing one of our lads late in the game was head butted in
the chest and got booked nice one that, tug a shirt in the book
! especially if you playing for us it was embarrassing in the
finish and spoilt a good game.
Early on Isa pressed and Chris Boulton clipped the bar he was
always presenting them with problems with the ball at his feet.
Penrhyncoch were very quick and Paul Murphy was to the rescue
early on with a last ditch tackle to save the day, but shortly
had to be subbed due to an injury. Our defence looked capable
and we coped with what they had to offer which was mainly pace
out wide and loads of favours from the ref but that is not their
fault we would take them should they have been so kind. Half
time 0-0
Second half again we were quick out the trap a cutting ball
down the centre of there defence saw Anthony Williams bring
the ball down quick and rifle the ball into the top left hand
corner leaving the keeper no chance. Penrhyncoch had to come
out and try to get something so the game opened up more as they
tried to get back into the game, it was Anthony Williams again
who got onto a cross from the left that headed past the despairing
keeper to take it to 0-2 for the Isa. Some crazy decisions followed
and the booking were shocking when you consider what was ignored
Simon Hulse ran through on 60 minutes in what would have been
a great chance only to have been given offside when clearly
he was a good 10 yards on when the ball was played. Penrhycoch
threw caution to the wind and at time had five upfront hitting
it long and the last few minutes was like the Alamo but we held
out to keep a deserving three points our first of the season. |
| 22.08.07
- Mynydd Isa vs. Flint Town United (Lost 1 -3)
|
Finally underway with the season
after the disappointment of Saturday when Llanfairpwll called
the game off late in the day. Last years fixture saw us take
the points against Flint so we knew this was going to be a tough
opener and it was. The first half was very much even with neither
keeper having a great deal to do and the game looked like it
was going to be settled by the odd goal as a fierce contest
in the middle of the park took place. Flint who were looking
like losing a few players have had Dean Hughes return from Airbus
and Shaun Beck from Bangor so they were a strong line up with
a few new faces from the Wirral, but the first half was a 0-0
draw.
In the second half Isa were flying and on 47 minutes a great
shot found the net from Simon Hulse that sent us into the lead,
we had a good spell then when Hulse went ever so close 5 minutes
later only to see it miss the post by a whisker.
On 52 minutes a cross from the right saw Dean Hughes head the
ball down and through Stuart Woods legs leaving Tyrer in the
Isa goal unsighted and Flint were on level terms. On 70 minutes
Flint broke through again with Shaun Beck hitting a decent shot
into the left hand corner. At this point Flint took the best
part of the game they looked comfortable and were edging the
game in the last five minutes another cross from the right saw
confusion in the Isa defence and unable to clear Shaun Beck
again tucked the ball away.
Flint in fairness were worthy winners, one incident that marred
the game was an injury to Brett Jones, tackled late by Ian Powell
saw the Isa player spend the night in hospital on morphine and
requiring facial surgery the following week. |
