Many people in the village don't believe we have
much of an history concerning football, the earliest I can find
any evidence of Mynydd Isa playing organised football is way back
in 1931 when they entered the Flintshire Amateur League Division
Two and playing against the likes of Flint Alex, Shotton Villa,
Holywell Celtic, Primrose Hill Ath, Mold Pentre Ath, Connahs Quay
Am, Ewloe Rangers, Shotton Ath, Buckley Rovers and Bagillt Rangers
to name but a few. In out first season we made quite an impact
for a small village and our team line up looked as follows A.Jones,
N.Williams, P. Piercy, J.Eagles, M.Bellis, I.Jones, W.Seaman,
J.Ellis, E.O.Edwards, H.Jones and W.O.Jones. this team sheet was
taken from the game versus Holwell Celtic in which Isa won 5-1.
At this time we were third in the table having played 11 winning
7 losing 3 with 1 draw. This information is from the County Herald
dated 20/11/1931.
It is likely that our home pitch at this time was on the Wylfa
Hill Field just past the mile stone. Other pitches we used were
opposite the stone cottages in Chambers Lane, Field Bron, Wylfa
Farm, Argoed Small Holdings, Chambers Lane also the Field Wilcox
& Jones Estate, opposite the garden centre. The stripping
rooms used were as follows The Old Shed in Chambers Lane, Old
Griffin Inn, Garage and the Welsh Chapel, school room. Our first
season ended with us taking second spot in the league behind Holywell
Celtic we scored 125 goals in 34 matches that season.
In the 1932 - 33 season Mynydd Isa started well but for some reason
clubs were dropping out of the league like flies and points deducted
hit us badly and we finished lowly down the table, interestingly
enough another side in our league that year was Buckley Square
United.
No side was entered into any competition until the 1936-37 season
the leagues seemed to be quarrelling with each other and teams
resigning as quick as one was joining. The Flintshire Junior League
replaced the Division Two. In 1936 Mynydd Isa entered this league
and found the going a little tough the teams to beat were Altami,
Castle Juniors and Leeswood Reserves. Isa finished fourth from
bottom with Buckley Celtic below them again fixtures were still
outstanding at the end of the season but Altami were crowned champions.
The 1937 -38 campaign started brighter and playing in the Senior
Division and early results shown a marked improvement in the side
in November Isa beat Rhydymwyn 13-0 in what was a record score
line for the club, we reached a cup final that year played at
Buckley and the referee was W.Speed and the linesmen W.Cunnan
and F.Young. Leeswood won the final 3-2 against Mynydd Isa and
also collected the league, along with the League Cup a good season
for Leeswood.

The 1938 -39 season and spirits must have been high after a final
appearance the season before and the tables show a mighty competition
taking place Connahs Quay Albion, Hawarden, Standard Athletic
and Mynydd Isa fighting it out for the title. This was to be a
season of cups for Isa and a fine show in the league. This season
Mynydd Isa reached the League Cup final against Leeswood and the
Challenge Cup final against Connahs Quay Albion.
League Honours board for that season read as follows:

The next season with the
out break of war Mynydd Isa never entered a side in the following
season, I was unable to find any league Mynydd Isa competed in
until they joined the Welsh National League in the 70`s.
In the 1978-79 season
Mynydd Isa entered the Welsh National League Division 4 and finished
with a respectable 5th. The following season we finished runners
up and gained promotion, steady improvement over the years saw
finishes of 12th, 10th, 6th, 7th, and in the season 1984-85 finished
runners up and gained promotion into Division One as this was
the year the Premiership was formed.
This division seemed to have been a league to far for the club
and they struggled for quite some time in the first season ended
third from bottom, following with finishing bottom the year after.
In 1987- 88 finished a brighter 11th. Only to drop to fourth from
bottom the next season. A mini revival saw Isa climb to 9th in
the 1989-90 season. Then followed the blackest years in the clubs
history from the season 1990 through to 1995 the results were
dreadful 2nd from bottom, 2nd Bottom, Bottom, Bottom, and Bottom
again resulting in relegation to division 2.
The first season in division 2 saw a respectable 9th in the 1995-96
season, this is when Steve Hamill was manager, the very next season
he gained promotion going up in runners up spot. In the season
1997-98 Steve left and went to Mold Alex reserves leaving the
club in a healthy 5th. What happened the following year? Dave
Edwards kept the club going with very little help as we finished
bottom again. In 1999-00 Graham Knight was manager and the club
ended the season 4th from bottom of Division 1. The following
year Graham Woods and Paul Wood took over mid term and raided
the club to 7th by the end of the season. That was the second
highest finish in ten turbulent years.
A new committee was formed in the close season and the team clinched
the championship as well as winning the Horace Wynne Cup and runners
up in the League Cup. In 2002/03 season saw us end third in our
first season in the Premiership and we also won the League Cup.
In that time mixed fortunes saw the club finish 7th and a cup
semi final when relegation looked on the cards at one point. The
season 2004/05 saw the club have their best ever season getting
to the semi final of the N.E.W.F.A. Cup getting beaten in extra
time by Bala Town, combined with finishing runners up in the Welsh
National League {Wrexham Area} and also winning the League Cup
for the second time in the clubs history.

MYNYDD ISA`S DUEL TRIUMPH
Flintshire Leagues concluded a very interesting and successful
season on Saturday. Mynydd Isa playing on the Buckley Town’s
ground, secured the League Cup by a 3-2 victory over Leeswood
in the final. Naturally Mynydd Isa were delighted with this second
trophy which will keep the Challenge Cup company. Leeswood put
up a good struggle, but nevertheless the winners fully merited
their success.

The County Herald, Friday

Mynydd Isa vs. Primrose Hill A. Primrose Hill journeyed to Mynydd
Isa on Saturday. Great interest was taken in the game owing to
both teams occupying leading positions in the league, and a large
crowd was present. The home team introduced Morris at left half,
and the visitors tried newcomers in Larvin and T. Lloyd. W. Jones
was a noted absentee from Hills forward line, the teams lined
up as follows
Mynydd Isa: A.Jones, A. Williams and H. Panton, T. Griffiths,
J. Eagles, and R. Morris, W. Seaman, J. Piercy. H. Jones, J. Ellis
and J. Jones.
Primrose Hill, L. Luft, and J. Halliwell, S. Pearson, G. Morris,
and W. Bennet, E. Green, A. Bullock, J. Larvin, R. Jones and G.
Jones.
Primrose Hill made the opening attack and after four minutes play
took the lead through R.Jones, who put the ball into the corner
of the net with a good drive. The visitors were constantly pressing
and only Jones effective work in goal prevented further score.
The home forwards however, were working hard and in several breakaways
they came within an ace of scoring. After 30 mins play R.Jones
was fouled in the penalty area and from the resulting kick the
same player put Primrose Hill further ahead. One minute from the
interval Mynydd Isa reduced the lead, Seaman sending in a smart
centre, which produced a scrimmage in the goalmouth, and whilst
several players were on the ground Piercy scored. On the commencement
of the second half, G.Morris the Primrose Hill centre half, twisted
his knee and had to retire. Thus disorganised the visitors resorted
to a defensive game, but they were not capable of stopping J.Piercy
scoring the equalising goal after 70 mins play. Primrose Hill
went very close in the final stages, a fine shot by G.Jones was
only frustrated with difficulty by H. Panton. The game was a good
one in every respect, all players playing a good sporting game.
L.Tuft, S. Pearson and R. Jones played well for the visitors and
J. Eagles and A. Jones played well for the home side.
