| Colin Snead started the season off as Manager and, the club were
trying to attain promotion to the Cymru Alliance and a mountain of
hard work had gone in pre-season for everything to be in place and
for the season to run as smooth as possible, however, after a poor
start and some indifferent results Colin resigned for the second time
prior the 3-0 defeat to Queens Park who were taking the table by storm.
The club were then looking for a new Manager when Simon Sedgwick and
Chris Hughes who was a player approached the committee and expressed
their interest.
Things took an immediate turn to the better with largely the same
group of players to start with then a few new faces were added through
the season to improve what was already a decent squad of players.
Mynydd Isa went on a record breaking run for the club after a shock
defeat at home to Summerhill in late November, in 31 games the club
lost only three games and drawing one, of the defeats one was as
above to Summerhill and the others were to Bala Town in the semi
final of the North East Wales Challenge Cup, Bala Town at the time
were riding high in the Cymru Alliance and it was no disgrace to
lose after extra time after being in front for a long period from
a Julian Pepper goal.
The other defeat came in the semi final of the Divisional Cup that
we eventually went on to win away to the eventual league Champions
Queens Park where they ran out deservedly 2-0 winners though we
went through on aggregate 4-3.
Later on in the season we were held to a 4-4 at Rhostyllen who resigned
from the league at the end of this season and that draw put paid
to our chances of winning the title, Rhostyllen had the services
of a few very good players from the Cymru Alliance out that night
and it certainly levelled things out.
We ended the season at Cefn Druids in the League Cup Final against
Penycae and on a hot summers day in May we played some superb football
to be going in at half time at 3-0 up and the game virtually won.
The second half saw a spirited display from Penycae as you would
expect as they always play with passion and the game resulted in
a 4-1 win for Mynydd Isa.
Our season, however was not yet over as we had one more league game
to complete away to Llangollen midweek and we had to win it by FIVE
clear goals or Cefn United who also had a fantastic run in to the
season would have claimed the runners up spot, history now reads
we did just that.
