| The
manager at the start of this campaign was Greg Moffatt who had joined
us as a player at the back end of the previous season, Greg an ex
professional at Chester who had also played abroad and coached at
Buckley was joined pre season by Terry Wheeler ex Flint and Rhydymwyn
player /manager.
This season expectations
were high as after finishing third last season and retaining the
services of much of the team we had what was possibly the first
preseason training and organised matches for some time.
Things started off poorly and results were not what was expected
and after a home defeat by Rhostyllen after eight league games we
parted company on good terms with the management staff, looking
like relegation was on the cards.
Colin Snead came in
as manager in his second spell at the club and recruited a number
of good local players such as Tommy Jones, Andy Cummins, Scott Jameson,
Wayne Jones, Rob Williams, Andy Bingham that on top of the lads
who stuck with us for the season Craig Knight, Bret Jones, Stuart
Wood, Dave Walsh. But to be fair the season was an exercise in damage
limitation once we started so badly and a number of players moved
to Cymru Alliance club Holywell Town and had it not been for those
mentioned who stood by the club it could well have folded.
This season we got to
the semi final of the Divisional Cup which at the time we were holders
of and lost out narrowly to Chirk AAA who went on to lift the trophy,
a notable scalp along the way was the beating of Bala Town in the
league and cup which showed the type of form we were capable of
as they only lost four all season in the league.
We also went to Bala Town at the end of the season and Bala Town
needed to win to lift the trophy although they still had a game
left after this match. We fought out a battling 0-0 draw to make
them wait longer than they wanted, and we ended with ten men and
Andy Cummins playing on one leg for 30 minutes, it was for me a
great display on our behalf with nothing but pride to play for.
It was games like this that makes you realise why you are daft enough
to be involved in local football !
Bala Town went on to win the N.E.W.F.A Cup against Buckley with
the same side a few games later, and gain promotion to the Cymru
Alliance.
The season 2003/04 saw
many changes at Mynydd Isa, we decided to try to run a reserve side
and it was possibly a few seasons to soon as the numbers on the
committee were not sufficient to support such a task.
Broncoed Tigers {Hence the merger Mynydd Isa B.T.} had been promoted
the previous season and were looking to associate themselves with
a local club, with ourselves being ambitious and trying for promotion
we felt it was the right move as they were a club in their own right
in terms of they had a manager assistant who were intending to stay
with them a see them develop, however, for various reasons the reserves
ended up manager less and the small committee had to take it in
turns to help from week to week to try to support the reserves,
Steve Hamil came in and did all he could and took us through to
the end of the season and completed our fixtures.
At the end of the season
a decision was taken that it was not viable at this time to carry
on with the reserve set up mainly down to the limited numbers involved
in the club and reluctantly the reserves had to be disbanded.
Sadly a few resignation took place this season Frank Seery who had
been involved in the club for many years deciding rightly so that
family commitments come first and has saw his grandson Jack develop
into a good player and secretary Greg Shaw also resigned due to
commitments away from football.
This particular season
proved a very difficult season with the Cymru Alliance taking much
of our team and to try to rebuild midseason proved a difficult task. |
